Governor Bii Proposes Framework to Link Sports and Academics
Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii has emphasized the potential of sports in improving education standards in Kenya, proposing a framework to integrate athletic excellence with academic achievement. Speaking during the 2024 Chepsaita Cross Country event, which attracted nearly 10,000 participants, Dr. Bii highlighted that the discipline and dedication required in sports could serve as a model for academic excellence.
Dr. Bii urged curriculum developers to explore frameworks that connect both spheres, noting that the principles of hard work, focus, and resilience in sports could significantly influence educational outcomes. His remarks came as he hosted Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and other government officials, including Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Sports) and Dr. Alfred Mutua (Social Protection), who were in attendance to witness the athletic competition.
The Chepsaita Cross Country, held in Uasin Gishu, not only showcased top athletic talent but also aimed to raise funds for school fees for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The event saw the participation of a wide range of athletes, including legendary figures and emerging stars, who shared their experiences and advice with the younger generation.
