Governor Jonathan Bii Celebrates Teachers
Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii has lauded the role of teachers in shaping the future of the county, as well as the nation at large, during the celebrations marking World Teachers’ Day. In a statement, the governor expressed deep gratitude to the men and women who dedicate their lives to nurturing young minds.
“As a county, we hold our teachers in the highest regard. They are the backbone of our society, playing a crucial role in educating and mentoring our children, who are the future leaders of this county and our nation. Today, we celebrate and honor their tireless efforts,” said Governor Bii.
Governor Bii underscored several major achievements by his administration in supporting the education sector. Notably, he revealed that 1,374 teachers in Uasin Gishu County have been placed on permanent and pensionable terms, a move aimed at boosting their job security and morale.
In addition, the county government has supplied learning materials worth Ksh 22 million to various schools, ensuring that learners have access to the resources they need for a quality education. Another key initiative mentioned by the governor is the school milk program, which has been launched to benefit over 40,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners. The program aims to keep children nourished and focused while also encouraging school attendance.
“We are committed to improving the conditions of our teachers and the learning environment for our children. The school milk program is already making a difference in ensuring our ECDE learners are healthy and attentive in class. Education is a priority, and we are taking every step to ensure both teachers and students have the support they need,” Bii added.
As World Teachers’ Day is marked globally, Governor Bii emphasized the county’s continued commitment to empowering teachers through training, fair compensation, and providing them with the necessary tools to excel in their work. He also called on the community to recognize the important role teachers play and to continue supporting them in their mission to educate the next generation.
“On behalf of the people of Uasin Gishu, we honour our teachers today and every day. You are our heroes,” the governor concluded.
