“I have today accepted to be their patron after being inaugurated by the society in an exercise that was led by their Governor Mr. Geoffrey Korir and other officials. From this noble cause, we have agreed to partner on various programs for the County including water provision and construction of dams, promotion of health, climate change by planting more trees as well as working with the youths and empowering them in their initiatives,” he said.
The exercise was conducted by Kenya Red Cross governor Geoffrey Kipng’etich Korir.
“The national office is around to inaugurate the Governor of Uasin Gishu to be a patron of Kenya Red Cross and be the team leader of the Kenya Red Cross Uasin Gishu County branch. The role of the patron is basically the team leader who will able to sell the ideals and fundamental principle of Kenya Red Cross and be able to seek support internally and externally for the activities undertaken within the county branches,” said Geoffrey Korir.
“We are happy that governor Bii has accepted to be our patron in Uasin Gishu County,” he added.
He noted that his visit was also geared towards assessing the state of matters at the branch level and how things are so far on regional matters.
“I also came to have a chat with the branch board as well as the volunteers to have a feeling on what are their needs and how we as national office support their activities and initiatives,” he said.
The meeting also deliberated on ways to support the areas affected by drought and hunger with the official distribution to be headed by the deputy president next week.
“We are also here to support activities of the drought, where this branch has been able to collect food items and from next week the deputy president will be able to launch the food distribution program and other forms of support from UNICEF from this county to other affected parts like Turkana.”
