Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii together with governor Turkana County Hon Jeremiah Lomorukai Napotikan led a food distribution program dubbed Save a Life Initiative for the needy people from the drought-stricken Turkana County.

The program that brought together members from the Uasin Gishu Business Community, farmers, Kenya Red Cross, professionals, and even churches raised close to 65 tonnes of foodstuff from flour, rice, vegetable oil, and in-kind donations.

“We from Uasin Gishu County heard the plea from our president of the republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto together with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to aid and support counties facing the drought crisis. Being our close brothers and partners in the NOREB economic bloc, we saw it wise to start from here in Turkana due to the closeness and geographical position,” said Jonathan Chelilim Bii.

Highlighting the effects of climate change being felt all over the globe, the governor echoed the need to plant many trees to revert the effects and save future generations from similar calamities.

“I have talked to your governor here and we have noted the need to plant a lot of trees here because the effects of climate change can be felt adversely here hence the need to plant a lot of trees to be on the safer side,” added Governor Bii.

Thanking the various persons for their efforts in supporting the well-wishers for their good deeds and generosity, Turkana County Governor urged them not to get tired while doing well.

“They have visited and brought us great things and foodstuffs after the drought experience we have had for some time. We thank Uasin Gishu County and their people for being the first people to support us and they say they will continue aiding us and we are very thankful for their good gesture,” remarked Jeremiah.

The two governors promised to work together going forward not on matters of relief food but also on economic matters, sports, and even culture.
