Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on the national government to grant greater autonomy to County Assemblies, emphasizing the need for improved operational efficiency through automation. His remarks were made during the launch of the fifth County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi.

Lusaka highlighted the importance of independence for the 47 County Assemblies, noting that it would enable them to serve their constituents more effectively. “These games offer a unique chance to bring our County Assemblies together, and it is vital that they operate autonomously,” he stated.

In addition to advocating for autonomy, Governor Lusaka urged the government to implement a comprehensive retirement plan for County Assembly Speakers and enhance security measures for assembly members. He voiced his concern over recent attacks on County Assembly representatives, emphasizing the need for immediate action to protect their safety. “We have sadly seen honorable members lose their lives in various parts of the country, and it is critical that their safety be prioritized,” he said.

The event saw the participation of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and staff from all 47 counties, who engaged in various sporting activities designed to promote unity and collaboration among the assemblies.
