Governor Lusaka Champions Disability Inclusion Ahead of International Disability Day
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka today led a pivotal Disability Inclusion Town Hall meeting at Kibabii University, marking the countdown to International Disability Day on December 3. The event, which focused on mainstreaming disability inclusion, highlighted the importance of empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) and amplifying their leadership and socio-economic contributions across the country.
Governor Lusaka emphasized his administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance equity for PWDs, underlining significant achievements, including the provision of over 500 wheelchairs, job opportunities, and tenders for individuals with disabilities. He also announced the county’s implementation of comprehensive Disability policies designed to ensure PWDs are integrated into all development plans.
The Town Hall drew key figures such as Prof. Julia Ojiambo, Chairperson of the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK), alongside representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Services, partner organizations, and senior county officials. Together, they discussed strategies to further advance the rights and opportunities of PWDs in Kenya.
Governor Lusaka reaffirmed his commitment to continue working towards creating an inclusive society where all citizens, regardless of disability, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development. The upcoming International Disability Day celebrations are expected to further highlight these efforts, providing a platform to inspire more inclusive policies and actions across the nation.
