Governor Mandago Applauds Residents For Maintaining Peace
Uasin Gishu county governor Jackson Mandago has applauded the residents of the county for maintaining peace since the onset of the campaign period.
Speaking to the press, Mandago assured the residents of security throughout the voting period revealing that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth running of the voting process.
“I have communicated with my team from different polling stations and they have assured me that the voting exercise is going on as per the election rules. A state of calmness has also been observed across the county and I applaud our security apparatus for availing themselves and ensuring that rules are followed accordingly,” said Mandago.
Mandago urged registered voters to turn up early and practice their democratic right of choosing their preferred leaders by casting their votes stating that failure to vote will leave them lamenting day and night in case their preferred candidates lose.
“I call upon all citizens to go to the polling stations and vote early and stop the habit of casting their votes late because IEBC will close the polling stations at 5 pm prescribed by the election rules. Voting means you will determine how the country will be governed in the next five years. If you are locked out you will blame yourself for not voting,” Mandago said.
According to Mandago, early casting of votes will give the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials an ample time of counting the ballot papers and also submit the results on time to prevent any cases of election rigging.
“We want elections to be like any other national events so that people vote and go back to their daily activities. As a county, by tomorrow we should have submitted our results and carry on with our lives. The identification and verification process is very rigorous and we hope only the registered voters will vote. We should also embrace the results positively regardless of who emerges the winner,” added Mandago.
The Uasin Gishu governor condemned the confrontations that occurred yester night between the two gubernatorial candidates’ Ssupporters stating the police are working to ensure the culprits are arrested.
“ We criticize issues of bloodshed in the county therefore all candidates should mobilize their supporters and ensure they respect each other for the safety of each and every citizen.
