Governor Natembeya Blames Bad Policies For Poor Maize Prices
Poor maize prices have been attributed to bad policies in the sector.
Governor George Natembeya on Monday said there is need to put proper regulations and guidelines in place to make maize farming lucrative.
The county boss spoke at Saboti and Muroki markets during the distribution of free maize seeds in the area.
The governor asked both the youth and the elderly to engage in farming to empower them economically.
“The youth have shunned farming in the past but it can be profitable if you properly do it”said the Governor.
He advised those have completed universities and colleges and are awaiting for jobs of their careers to do so as they engage in farming.
The free seed distribution program Natembeya said will help to fight hunger and get surplus for sale.
“Trans Nzoia is known as the countries food basket,but that cannot be the case if we first don’t have food in our houses”said the governor.
He added that his government is earmarked for maintaining and marramming all roads.
“I am working with all MCAs to make our roads passable”.
He is optimistic that all roads will be passable in two years time.
His administration he added will unveil bursary program for this year on Friday.
The program he said targets 10,000 students in day schools.
