Governor George Natembeya joined mourners at the funeral of Joan Mandu Nyaporo, a dedicated educator who passed away after a battle with cancer. Nyaporo was remembered for her commitment to her students and her community.

Governor Natembeya praised Nyaporo’s career as a history and Kiswahili teacher, noting her leadership role as Head of Department at St. Peter’s Nyakinywa Secondary School. He emphasized the importance of early cancer screening, urging residents to seek testing and avoid late diagnoses like Nyaporo’s Stage 4 cancer.

“Early discovery at stage one can be managed,” Governor Natembeya said. “But if it’s on stage four, there will be no reverse.”

He specifically encouraged men over 40 to get tested, citing their higher risk for certain cancers. To improve access to healthcare, Governor Natembeya announced the establishment of a cancer center at the Kitale County Referral Hospital, reducing dependence on the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Governor Natembeya also highlighted education initiatives like the Elimu Bursary Fund, which allocates 120 million shillings to support students scoring 250 marks and above to join high school. This program, which sponsored 1,800 students last year, will be relaunched next week to ensure education continuity despite financial challenges.

The Governor urged school administrators to be understanding of parents’ economic difficulties, suggesting flexible payment arrangements that don’t disrupt learning.

The Governor was accomplished by Assembly Minority Leader Eric Wafula, MCAs Kennedy Mugush( Keiyo), Andrew Kutitila ( Sikhendu), Agriculture Chief Officer Sammy Sichangi , P. A. Emmanuel Wamalwa and Economic Advisor Emmanuel Waswa.
