Governor Natembeya Showcases Health, Agriculture, and Infrastructure Achievements on Mashujaa Day
Governor George Natembeya outlined significant progress in health, agriculture, and infrastructure during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Kapkoi RSC Primary School in Kwanza Sub County. Addressing a crowd of residents, local leaders, and dignitaries, Natembeya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Trans Nzoia residents while honoring the sacrifices of Kenya’s heroes.
In his speech, Governor Natembeya called for unity and resilience, urging the county to embrace the values of the nation’s heroes who fought for independence. “As we celebrate Mashujaa Day, let us reflect on the sacrifices made by our forefathers and carry forward the ideals of unity and resilience in building a better county,” he remarked.
### **Healthcare Transformation**
Governor Natembeya underscored the administration’s focus on improving healthcare services, highlighting the recruitment of additional healthcare personnel and technological advancements. He announced the upcoming recruitment of 200 healthcare workers to address the staffing shortages affecting county health facilities.
The governor also highlighted improvements at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the installation of a CT scanner has enhanced diagnostic services. Additionally, he revealed that a renal unit would soon be launched to cater to patients requiring dialysis, further boosting the hospital’s capacity.
### **Agriculture: Empowering Farmers**
Agriculture, a sector that contributes 40% of Trans Nzoia’s gross product, was another key area of focus during Natembeya’s address. He proudly reported the distribution of free seeds to over 153,000 households, aimed at improving food security and promoting crop diversification.
In a bid to boost farmers’ profits, the governor announced the establishment of a County Aggregation and Industrial Park. The facility is expected to streamline the agricultural value chain by eliminating middlemen, ensuring that farmers reap maximum benefits from their produce.
### **Infrastructure and Climate Action**
Infrastructure development continues to be a priority for Governor Natembeya’s administration. He pledged to improve the county’s road networks and increase electricity connectivity by 5% in the coming year.
Natembeya also reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing climate change. He announced a bold initiative to plant one million trees annually across the county, part of an ongoing effort to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
### **Financial Challenges and Future Outlook**
Despite the progress made, Governor Natembeya warned that Trans Nzoia County faces a significant financial shortfall due to the rejection of the 2024 Finance Bill, which could result in the loss of KES 400 million in revenue. He urged residents to increase tax compliance, stressing that local revenue collection is crucial for sustained development.
“We face financial challenges, but I remain committed to ensuring that we deliver quality services to our people. Together, we must address these setbacks and continue building the future we want for Trans Nzoia,” Natembeya emphasized.
### **Empowering the Youth in Agriculture**
The event also saw the commissioning of 175 young agripreneurs, a new initiative by the county government to involve youth in advancing agricultural practices. These young professionals will work with local farmers to enhance productivity and promote innovative farming techniques.
Governor Natembeya concluded his address by urging the residents of Trans Nzoia to remain united in overcoming challenges and building a prosperous county. “Let us stand united and face our challenges for a better tomorrow,” he said, pledging to build a legacy that future generations would be proud to emulate.
The Mashujaa Day celebrations ended on a high note, with residents expressing optimism about the county’s future under Governor Natembeya’s leadership.
