Governor George Natembeya has called upon Christians and individuals from affluent families to embrace the virtue of generosity for the advancement of the church and the support of those in less fortunate circumstances.

Addressing a gathering during a funds drive at St. Joseph’s Grounds Kitale, he said charitable giving is one way of exhibiting love in the society.

Natembeya pointed out that financial contributions are very important in fostering the church’s development and positively contributing to improving livelihood.

Governor Natembeya encouraged the well-off attendees to actively participate in acts of generosity.

The event coincided family day and the commemoration of 25 years after the inception of the Kitale Catholic Diocese.

Present were Members of the clergy, Health Cabinet secretary Susan Nakhumicha, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, among other notable leaders.

Nakhumicha said in the past, most of the budget for government operations depended on donor funding, saying the government is planning to have ways of financing own budget through different initiatives.

She said her ministry is planning to start providing free treatment for illnesses such as cancer and diabetes under the yet to be established critical illness fund.

Wamalwa regretted that most of Kenyans are surviving through hardship due to high cost of living, a hurdle that the government ought to fix.

“Today, the church you will agree with me that peo0ple don’t have money at all, the cost of living has gone up due to high prices of commodities, kindly pray for our people and the nation at large so that we can fix the mess being experienced “he said.

During the funds drive, Nakhumicha together with a contribution from the DP Rigathi Gachagua and other CSs raised sh.2,500,000 while National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangu’la through Wanyonyi sent sh.500,000 while Governor Natembeya donated sh.350,000 as Wamalwa gave out sh.100,000.
