Governor Sang Announces Launch of Natex Textile Unit
Governor Stephen Sang is pleased to announce that the Nandi County Textile Unit (Natex) is on the brink of commencing operations. After successfully installing all the essential equipment, we are now awaiting the final step in the process: the installation of a transformer by Kenya Power to provide the necessary electricity for the facility.
Once this final requirement is met, Natex will officially open its doors.
Natex represents a significant advancement for Nandi County’s economic and educational landscape. Beyond its role in apparel production, the facility is set to provide invaluable on-the-job training for our youth. This initiative will cover various skill areas including embroidery, knitting, garment making, patent drafting and design, fashion design, production, and merchandising. These competencies are in high demand both locally and internationally, equipping our young people with the skills necessary for successful careers in the textile sector.
Governor Sang emphasized that a significant portion of the trained personnel will be retained at Natex, ensuring a continuous cycle of production and market readiness. This approach not only secures jobs but also strengthens the local textile industry.
“Natex is not just about producing garments; it is about creating opportunities,” said Governor Sang. “We are committed to providing our youth with hands-on experience and training that will pave the way for their success in the global textile market.”
In addition to these training programs, Natex will serve as a hub for enterprise development. Students who complete their textile studies will have the chance to develop and market their own brands, fostering entrepreneurship and enabling them to launch and grow their own businesses.
Looking ahead, Governor Sang also outlined plans for a second phase of this initiative, which will include the establishment of cottage industries in leather and shoe making, wood processing, and plastic formworks for household items, among other products. These developments are part of a broader strategy to accelerate industrialization and stimulate economic growth in Nandi County and beyond.
“This initiative aligns perfectly with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” Governor Sang added. “By focusing on entrepreneurship and industrial development, we are setting the stage for a more prosperous future for our county and our nation.”
The Governor’s announcement marks an exciting new chapter for Nandi County as we work towards a more vibrant and diversified economic future.
