Harness Technology to Do Business, Youths Told
The expanded digital space plugged in by technological advancements are tools to help youth to entrepreneurship.
The Internet search engines, contents and available job opportunities abound in the digital space.
Speaking on Thursday during a youth training themed “Entrepreneurship For Economic Growth”, County Executive for Youth, Sports ICT & Innovation, Eng Lucy Ng’endo says the internet comes as an advantage for youth to do business.
Eng Ng’endo: “Entrepreneurship has expanded thanks to the internet. As a youth of this generation, technology will assist you in your entrepreneurial practices,” said Eng Ng’endo.
Eng Ng’endo also rallied the youth to take advantage of available financial programs like affirmative action as well as county loans for businesses.
Chief Officer for ICT, Felix Kimaru said: “The entrepreneurship space is broad and it is better for the current generation because they have technology as their advantage, there is useful content in the internet for almost every start-up.”
“(Youth) need to master good skills of writing proposals because this is a determinant for your funding. Technology should be your friend.
County Director of Youth Affairs, Peter Ruto said the department is rolling out empowerment programs, training and sensitization among them.
The director also said the digital space has enough content for inquiries, say for example, how to start and do mushroom farming and others.
“The internet has search engines that can return inquiries and answer questions. The beauty of it is that one can ask a question on the internet and get answers.
“Again, the expanded digital space has provided jobs for example essay writing and research for persons studying and need certain publications. These writing jobs pay very well and can therefore be your entrepreneurial ventures,” added Mr Ruto.
Ruto also said County has tailored programs to nurture youth talented in sports and link those with skills to employment.
“Let us be adaptive and use technological changes to our advantage. Let us work to tap into the digital space and get these online jobs, this is also entrepreneurship,” said Director of ICT and Innovation, Titus Kimaiyo.
Kimaiyo said the county has set up ICT centres in various wards across the county, to assist youth get into the digital space and turn entrepreneurs in the process.
