Help tame corruption on Climate programs; EACC

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday held a sensitisation workshop on corruption reporting targeting the Trans Nzoia County Climate Change Unit CCU) in a bid to tame the vice during implementation of the World Bank Funded Financing Locally Led Climate Actions program.

In the one day event held at a Kitale hotel, the EACC officers elaborated on the mandates of the commission, Foundational understanding of Corruption and Unethical practices, the Anti-Corruption legal frameworks besides corruption reporting and complaints handling.

Led by EACC Assistant Director Alfred Mwachungha the team sensitised the CCU members on corruption prevention, created awareness on the dangers of corruption, possible loopholes of corruption and ways of reporting corruption.

The CCU members are in turn expected to further cascade down the training to the Ward Climate Change Planning Committees and community members so that they can help prevent and report corruption.

EACCs Mary Ng’ang’a and Ali Khalif took the team through the salient provisions of Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003, the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016, Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012 and its alignment to the Climate Change arena, with keen focus on implementation of the Annual Development Activities.

Joy …..who represented the State Department for Devolution encouraged the CCU to help communities as well as the Climate Change organs with the relevant technical expertise and proper guidance to ensure value for money.

She assured the devolved unit of support in ensuring equitable sharing of national resources, capacity support, enhancing checks and balances, policy formulation as well as on promoting intergovernmental relations.

CCU Focal Person Godfrey Wekesa obliged to the commission’s call to formulate an Anti-Corruption Action Plan for the FLLoCA program within a month that will entail processes including assigned resources, responsible persons, the time frame for activities and monitoring & evaluation.
