Chief Executive Officer of the Samchi Group Dr. Esther Muchemi is this morning sharing with us a thought:

BOARDROOM/OFFICE POLITICS
“Siasa Mbaya Maisha Mbaya” was a famous quote from one of our former national leaders.
And yes, it doesn’t matter whether you are talking about boardroom politics, business politics, marketplace politics, family politics, or religion politics. Politics is politics.

And bad politics leads to terrible results in people’s lives, in companies’ results, in community welfare, and even our spiritual well-being.
Poor politics births a terrible society, across the board.
Let’s say this:
The rise and/or fall of a nation, a family, a business, an economy, etc., is greatly dependent on who the leader is.

This is because leaders come with power; power to change, power to make things happen or not to happen. Their understanding of issues at hand determines how they respond to problems and their guide to solutions.

The individuals they let in as advisors and to an extent they listen to greatly determine the outcome of their leadership and the results they deliver to the institution at hand.

I have seen economies grow as others crumble at the change of top leadership.

I have seen great companies crumble at the change of top leadership too.
And we also need to speak to us, the SMEs: always remember that the people you give those jobs could also be making or breaking you.

You must be on watch!
The world of business consists of not-so-good people, people who will look at the tiniest of loopholes to exploit the business in whichever way. However, there are those whom you can trust to take your business to another level. These are the ones you need to have and get into your businesses. It’s never easy but it must be done for you cannot work alone and grow.

Take for instance; those who do business in your business, those who gang up against the business, those who don’t respect the journey and the processes, those who don’t carry your vision, etc. Such individuals must never or should cease being in leadership, not your managers, not your supervisors, not anything.

Why…? Because if the center cannot hold, everything else will come crumbling.
Are you aware of this saying…? ‘Hire slow, fire fast’.
I struggle with the last bit but if they need to go, let them go.
A change could be all you need to get back to the growth path.
And yes, keep it in mind that who you trust as a leader in your business, your institution, your community, or even the nation is key to success.
Be warned!
Madam CEO
