I Will With the National Government For the Betterment of My People-Governor Natembeya
TransNzoia Governor George Natembeya has affirmed his commitment to working with the national government to ensure that Trans Nzoia residents receive the full benefits of government services.
As part of the national government’s development program, a number of projects are being launched. Saying that it is imperative that leaders from all spheres of leadership come together to ensure that Trans Nzoia is also covered.
He was answering questions live on BK FM during a listener question period.
“Ï only have one agenda, which is ensuring that our people’s living standards are upscaled by developing my county. As a result, I am ready to collaborate with the national government and other leaders. Trans Nzoia is a story I want to change,” he said.
In his remarks, the county boss said that his administration would address a number of issues in the county that should be tackled urgently by the national government. Among these issues are the construction of roads, squatter problems, and the issuance of land titles.
The governor stated that he had already initiated talks with the national government on the issue of health care services in the county. These discussions would see the newly commissioned county referral hospital equipped to assist residents in getting quality health care at the level 5 facility.
He said the facility needs more than 2 billion shillings to equip which he said is above the county funding capacity.
To boost economic activities in the county, the governor revealed that plans are in place to expand Kitale town. He said the prison and forest land will soon be handed over to the county government to be used for the expansion program.
He added that his administration is also working with the national government to ensure that a university that focuses on agriculture is established.
He said such facilities would not only help boost the county’s status in terms of education but also create other economic opportunities in housing and agriculture.
The county is blessed with two water towers on Mount. Elgon and Cherangany said he would ensure that he works jointly with the national government to ensure that residents are connected to clean piped water.
He said his administration plans to open up the Suam border point saying the project is geared towards boosting cross-border business between Kenya and Uganda which he said will immensely benefit the residents of Trans Nzoia.
Governor Natembeya said he would ask for the allocation of more land for the Suam border town when President William Ruto is visiting this week.
To boost trade in the county, the governor revealed that his administration had set aside 100 million for the NAWIRI kitty. He said the fund would assist traders to enhance their businesses.
He said his government would ensure that all bright but needy students from underprivileged families are given the support they need. He said that he had already set aside 100 million for the bursary kitty.
In addition, his government has also launched a feeding program in all ECDE centers across the county. This is because the move would help increase enrollment and ensure quality learning at the centers.
Through the department of health, he said his administration would give stipends to health workers and help register 70K people who will benefit from the NHIF coverage. This is because many residents cannot afford to pay the monthly subscription fee.
He said he is working with members of the county assembly to ensure that all health facilities across the county are equipped with medical supplies.
He said 100k farmers have already registered and they will benefit from the subsidy initiative. Farmers should ensure that they have registered as the process is still in progress.
He said he would have a meeting with the police county commander as soon as possible. This is so that he could address the complaints brought up by Boda Boda operators in relation to harassment.
Kitale residents were assured by the governor that their government would take appropriate measures to enhance security and clean up Kitale.
