ISCOS Handover: Zambia Assumes Chairmanship from Uganda
In a significant transition for the Intergovernmental Standing Committee on Shipping (ISCOS), Zambia has assumed the chairmanship from Uganda during the 9th Assembly of Ministers held today in Nairobi. The ceremony marked the transfer of leadership from Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Edward Wamala Katumba, to Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Frank Museba Tayali.
The handover was formalized as Uganda’s Hon. Edward Wamala Katumba passed the ISCOS chairmanship to Hon. Frank Museba Tayali in a symbolic gesture of continuity and commitment to advancing maritime affairs in the region.
Representatives from ISCOS member states gathered for the assembly, where Shipping and Maritime Affairs Principal Secretary, Hon. Geoffrey Eyanae Kaituko, delivered a speech on behalf of the meeting’s participants. The event also set the stage for tomorrow’s forthcoming 3rd meeting of Ministers responsible for Shipping and Maritime Affairs from Eastern, Southern, and Northern Africa, scheduled to convene in Nairobi under ISCOS auspices.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon. Geoffrey Eyanae Kaituko reiterated the region’s dedication to enhancing the shipping and maritime sector as a catalyst for economic growth. He emphasized ISCOS’ pivotal role in fostering collaboration among member states to unlock the sector’s potential and drive regional prosperity.
ISCOS, established to promote cooperation and development in maritime transport among member states, continues to play a crucial role in shaping policies and strategies to harness maritime resources for sustainable economic development across Eastern, Southern, and Northern Africa.
The upcoming ministerial meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of ISCOS member states to strengthen regional ties and leverage maritime opportunities for shared prosperity.
