Jenga Mkenya Movement Criticizes New Cabinet Appointments: Calls for National Action

Reuben Kigame, leader of the Jenga Mkenya Movement, has issued a stark condemnation of President William Ruto’s latest cabinet appointments, asserting that the selections fail to reflect national unity and meritocracy. In a press release shared with media houses today, Kigame highlighted several key concerns regarding the process and the individuals chosen for the new cabinet.

Kigame criticized the appointments for perpetuating tribal cronyism rather than fostering a diverse and inclusive government. He argued that the selections appear to cater to political interests rather than focusing on professional expertise and the needs of Kenyans. “We would have appointed experts such as a professor of health sciences for the Ministry of Health or a leading academic for the Ministry of Education,” Kigame said. He also lamented the failure to include professionals with disabilities, calling for a more representative and competent cabinet.

Furthermore, Kigame expressed dismay over the retention of several former cabinet secretaries who had previously been dismissed for incompetence. He described this move as “insanity” and an “insult” to Kenyans who had demanded a complete overhaul of the previous administration. The Jenga Mkenya Movement had advocated for a new team and the abolition of unconstitutional positions, such as the Prime Cabinet Secretary, calling instead for public engagement to form a more effective government.

Kigame also criticized the partial announcement of the cabinet, viewing it as a reflection of the Ruto Administration’s ongoing incompetence. He claimed that the appointments expose the administration’s failure to deliver on promises of integrity, accountability, and effective governance. “These appointments reveal a commitment to political elitism and a failure to address the pressing issues of tribalism, debt, and corruption,” he stated.

In response to what he perceives as a failure of the current government, Kigame urged Kenyans to reject the new cabinet and prepare for a significant push to remove the government from power. He proposed a series of actions including national strikes, a boycott of corrupt officials’ services and products, and peaceful demonstrations in accordance with Article 37 of the Kenyan Constitution. Kigame emphasized the need for a government that upholds values of justice, accountability, and national unity.

“We must fight for a government that listens to its people, fights poverty and disease, and is committed to truth and meritocracy,” Kigame declared. “This is the future we want for Kenya and the legacy we intend to leave for future generations.”
