Kakamega First Lady Launches a Tree Nursery Project in Likuyani Sub-County
Kakamega First Lady Janet Kassily Barasa joined members of Nzoia Community Forest Association (CFA) in Sango Ward, Likuyani Sub-County for the launch of a tree nursery project where she lauded the project members for their forest conservation efforts that are expected to promote a healthier and a more sustainable environment.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady said the initiative demonstrates their commitment to management of natural resources and encouraged the Association to diversify the tree planting exercise by incorporating fruit trees.
She noted that addition of fruit trees will promote food security and wealth creation, which are key pillars of H.E the Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa’s manifesto for the people of Kakamega County.
The tree growing programme, she explained, is in support of the President William Ruto’s Directive of the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign that targets to grow 15 billion trees by 2032.
The First Lady donated paper tubes and other items to the group members.
Present was the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate change Mrs Peninah Mukabane and other senior Government officers.
