Kaptait Village Residents to an End of Sell and Consumption of Illicit Liquor

Residents of Kaptait village in Soy Ward, Soy Sub County have taken a stand against the distribution of illicit brew and substances which has had a detrimental impact in their community among them being loss of lives.

The residents decry highlighted that the people have been consuming illicit brew which is sourced from Budalangi and Huruma estates.

Speaking during a public participation exercise on illicit brew and substances abuse ,Acting Director Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Koiya Arap Maiyo, acknowledged the residents call to put to an end the distribution of the illicit brew in their area.

“Let us come together and desist from alcoholism and drug related behaviours because it is the only way we will be saving the next generation,”said Koiya.

Soy Ward Administrator Kipchirchir Bittok urged the youth to enrol to vocational training centres to benefit from government programs a way of creating employment among themselves.

According to kogo Julia Chepkwony, a total of nine households is involved in the production and distribution of illicit brew in the area which has prompted them to raise an alarming action to curb this illegal activity in order to protect the well-being of the residents.

She also noted that the most prominent impacts of the consumption of illicit brew has been observed in school-going children which has adversely affected their studies and overall academic progress due to parental negligence.

Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration is stepping up its efforts in cracking down on the production and distribution of illicit brew and substances.
