KEFRI Achieves ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Recertification
The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by securing ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 recertifications from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Certification Body. This significant milestone reflects KEFRI’s dedication to maintaining high standards of quality management and environmental sustainability in its operations.
Eng. Zachariah Lukorito, who represented the KEBS Managing Director during the recertification ceremony, lauded KEFRI for its unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to international standards. He noted that the recertification is a testament to the organization’s focus on delivering superior services while ensuring environmental conservation.
With 13 years of experience in implementing ISO standards, KEFRI has consistently set the bar high in quality and environmental management. These certifications underscore the institute’s role as a leader in forestry research and its dedication to sustainable practices.
In tandem with President William Ruto’s ambitious plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, KEFRI continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s reforestation and environmental conservation efforts. Speaking during the ceremony, George Tarus, the Acting Conservation Secretary in the State Department for Forestry, delivered remarks on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Forestry. He praised KEFRI for its innovative contribution through the Jaza Miti App, a cutting-edge tool designed to aid in achieving the 15-billion-tree goal. The app enables users to select suitable tree species, document their planting efforts, and track and monitor tree growth effectively, thereby promoting accountability and efficiency in tree-planting initiatives.
The success of KEFRI’s ISO journey and its contributions to national reforestation efforts are attributed to the visionary leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Jane Njuguna. Under her stewardship, the organization has not only upheld global standards but also enhanced its impact on sustainable forestry practices in Kenya.
As KEFRI celebrates this achievement, it reaffirms its commitment to fostering innovation, improving service delivery, and contributing to the preservation of Kenya’s natural resources. This milestone serves as an inspiration for other institutions to prioritize quality, sustainability, and environmental stewardship in their operations.
