Kenya and World Bank Collaborate to Combat Environmental Pollution

In a concerted effort to address environmental challenges, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Festus Ngeno, convened a crucial meeting with World Bank representatives. The gathering, marking the 7th mission stocktaking of the Kenya Environmental Health and Pollution Management Program (AEHPMP), aimed to assess implementation progress and performance.

Accompanying Eng. Festus Ngeno were key figures including Mr. Emilio Mugo, Chairman of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Board, NEMA Director General Mamo B. Mamo EBS, and David Ong’are, the AEHPMP Project Coordinator.

The meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions with Ernesto Sanchez-Triana, Global Lead for Pollution Management and Circular Economy, and Min Jung Kwon, an Environmental Specialist from the World Bank.

During the deliberations, Eng. Festus Ngeno praised the World Bank team’s support to the Ministry, particularly in the crucial area of e-waste management, which is actively spearheaded by NEMA. This acknowledgment underscored the collaborative efforts between Kenya and the World Bank in tackling environmental pollution.

In response, NEMA Director General Mamo B. Mamo EBS extended appreciation to the World Bank team for their unwavering support. He emphasized the commitment of the newly reconstituted Project Coordination Unit, highlighting a clear roadmap and strict timelines to expedite the implementation of various activities outlined in the AEHPMP.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to intensify efforts in environmental preservation and pollution management. The collaboration between Kenya and the World Bank stands as a testament to the collective resolve to safeguard the planet for future generations.
