Kenya Defence Forces Transfer National Police Service Hospital to Police Authority

In a momentous ceremony on May 17, 2024, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) formally handed over the newly constructed National Police Service Hospital-Mbagathi to the National Police Service (NPS). Presiding over the event were the Cabinet Secretary for Defense, Hon. Aden Duale, and the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

Hon. Duale hailed the inauguration of the hospital as a historic milestone since Kenya’s independence, underscoring it as a testament to the collaborative spirit between the KDF and NPS. He emphasized the facility’s significance in bolstering the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

Echoing Duale’s sentiments, Hon. Prof. Kindiki expressed confidence in the hospital’s ability to provide top-notch healthcare services to NPS officers. He affirmed the commitment of the Interior Ministry to ensure the hospital operates efficiently, serving the needs of its personnel and contributing to public health initiatives.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, DIG Kenya Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, commended the enduring partnership between the KDF and NPS. He highlighted the hospital’s role as a vital component of the ongoing modernization efforts within the NPS, enhancing the welfare and medical support for its personnel.

The National Police Service Hospital-Mbagathi boasts 150 beds and is designated as a Level Four medical facility. Its establishment marks a significant addition to the NPS healthcare infrastructure, complementing the existing Border Police Hospital in Kanyonyoo, Kitui.

Notable attendees at the ceremony included the Principal Secretary for Defense, Hon. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lt. Gen. John Omenda, NPS Secretary of Administration and Accounting Officer, Mrs. Bernice Lemedeket, and Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Eliud Lagat, alongside other senior military and police officials.

The transfer of the National Police Service Hospital-Mbagathi signifies a collaborative effort towards enhancing healthcare services for law enforcement personnel, underscoring the commitment of both the KDF and NPS to safeguarding the health and well-being of those who serve the nation.
