The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has expressed strong support for the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) recent announcement to recruit 46,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. This initiative is set to alleviate the significant shortage of educators in primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools across the country.

KNUT’s National Chairman, Patrick Karinga Munuhe, emphasized the importance of this recruitment drive, highlighting that the commitment to hiring teachers is vital, especially as some educators have left the profession for better opportunities. “This move will not only provide job security for many but also enhance the quality of education in our schools,” he stated.

The TSC has allocated 6,000 positions for primary schools, 39,550 for junior secondary schools, and 450 for senior secondary schools. To be eligible, applicants must be Kenyan citizens registered with the TSC. Primary school candidates are required to possess a P1 certificate, while those seeking positions in junior or senior secondary schools must hold a diploma in education.

Applicants are instructed to complete only one application form, as multiple submissions will result in disqualification. Additionally, manual applications will not be accepted. Shortlisted candidates will need to present original academic and professional certificates during the recruitment process.

The TSC encourages serving interns to apply within their respective counties or sub-counties, with identity cards needed for verification. This recruitment initiative represents a significant step towards addressing the teacher shortage and improving educational standards nationwide.
