Kenya Power Announces Planned Power Outages in Key Regions
Kenya Power today announced a major power interruption that will cut across several regions in the country tomorrow as ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure continue.
Major institutions, businesses, and residential places in various counties will be plunged into darkness as the utility company undertakes crucial maintenance work.
Kenya Power announced today that the power will be switched off from 7.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m. in affected areas to pave the way for the exercise.
The company maintained that the scheduled outages would be necessary for stability and reliability in electricity supply across the country.
Areas that were to be affected by this are major markets, factories, hospitals, and education facilities.
Keypoint areas include Chemosit Market, Litein Market, Kapkatet Market, and Bomet Town.
Other affected areas are hospitals: Tenwek Hospital, Siloam Hospital, Tenwek Mission Hospital, Longisa Hospital, and Kaplong Mission Hospital.
Kabianga University and Kabianga High School are among the institutions that will also be affected.
The tea factories, which form the backbone of agricultural production in Kenya, are equally among the victims. Among the affected will be factories like James Finlays, Chelal Tea Factory, Buretti Tea Factory, Kapkatet Tea Factory, and a number of others. This may bring to a standstill most temporary production activities in those areas, affecting not only farmers but the general economy as well.
In addition, vital infrastructure in Kilgoris Town, Sotik Town, Mogogosiek Town, and other urban centers will be plunged into darkness.
Major towns in the greater Kisii and Nyamira counties, such as Kisii Town, Keroka, Keumbu, Nyamira Town, and Awendo, have also been lined up for the power cuts.
In addition, areas along Lake Victoria, such as Mbita, Rusinga Island, and Homa Bay Town, will be plunged into a power blackout in the course of the maintenance process.
This, Kenya Power said has called on its customers in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements to minimize inconvenience.
“We understand the disruptions that such outages cause and we thank our customers for their patience and understanding. Our teams will work efficiently to ensure that power is restored as soon as possible,” the company said.
The power firm assured its customers that this interruption is important for the long-term sustainability of the electricity network and that it will go a long way in reducing future cases of outages and breakdowns.
Kenya Power encouraged customers to continue checking its official communication channels for progress on the maintenance work and possible changes to the schedule for the outage.
