Kenya Wildlife Service Director General Attends Rhino Charge 2024 Prize-Giving Ceremony

In a landmark event held in Torosei, Kajiado County, Dr. Erustus Kanga, the Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), graced the 35th edition of Rhino Charge 2024 alongside esteemed dignitaries.

The ceremony, attended by notable figures including Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change Hon. Soipan Ole Tuya, and Kajiado Governor H.E. Joseph Ole Lenku, celebrated the ongoing collaboration between KWS and Rhino Ark in conservation efforts.

Dr. Kanga lauded the evolution of the KWS-Rhino Ark partnership, which initially concentrated on safeguarding endangered black rhinos in the Aberdares. Over time, this collaboration has expanded its scope to encompass critical ecosystems in Mt. Kenya, Eburu in Eastern Mau, South Western Mau, and Kakamega Forests. Notably, the partnership has broadened its focus to include the protection of endangered species like the Mountain Bongo and initiatives for climate change mitigation.

During his address, the Director General expressed gratitude towards the Rhino Chargers for their unwavering dedication to environmental conservation. Their efforts have not only led to the preservation of sensitive ecological systems but have also contributed to enhancing community livelihoods. Dr. Kanga assured attendees of the prudent utilization of funds contributed during the Rhino Charge, emphasizing transparency and accountability in resource management.

The ceremony served as a testament to the collaborative spirit driving environmental stewardship in Kenya, with leaders from various sectors reaffirming their commitment to protecting the nation’s natural heritage.
