Kenyans Urged to Plant Trees- Green Circle Foundation Founder
Kenyans have been urged to plant a tree during this rainy season
According to Catherine Kirui the founder and CEO of Green Circle Foundation, this will help the Country achieve 10 percent forest cover and reduce the effects of climate change.
“Climate change has affected has badly affected us; we are encouraging the public to plant trees, especially during this rainy season. Our vision and mission as a foundation is to plant one million trees per year. This is attainable if we include other stakeholders,” said Kirui while speaking to the press after planting trees at Central Primary School in Eldoret town.
She says this is the only way that will help the Country fight climate Change.
“I want to call upon Kenyans let us make a culture of growing trees and owning our environment,” added Kirui.
Kirui says the Green Circle Foundation focuses on sensitizing school children, and youth groups, not only on the need to plant trees but also grow them.
“We have visited Central primary school in Uasin Gishu, Eldoret where we planted trees and sensitized on how to conserve the environment. We taught them how to plant trees and their importance. We also distribute tree seedlings to children so that they plant them in their homes,” Kirui said.
Kirui reiterated that they have stakeholders who create awareness in the public on matters concerning water and energy conservation and that is important to conserve energy by switching off power when not in use and turning off water taps. She further emphasized the need to involve widows in such activities of tackling climate change to empower their well-being.
“We are advocates of climate change, global warming, sensitizing and educating people on how why, and how we can tackle climate, and how human beings contribute to climate change,” Kirui said.
She also donated pads to the students.
