Kenyans Urged to Promote Meaningful Engagements With Women
Kenyans have been urged to promote the meaningful engagement of women in peace and security initiatives.
Speaking during the meeting organized by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Linda Medgwa from the State Department of Gender said that males should avoid gender bias to promote equality and promote women’s leadership in peace.
The meeting brought together men from all sub-counties of Uasin Ngishu County to provide training on promoting meaningful engagement of women in peace and security.
Males were urged to acknowledge the privileges that women hold and understand that the causes of gender inequality are universal.
‘’Invite women into conversations, promote equal opportunities, and address inequalities to promote women’s leadership in peace and security,” said Madegwa.
Alfred Limo from Youth Senate Kenya said they have learned how they can assist women in terms of ensuring they are secure.
‘’We are happy having undergone a training with NCCK In support of UN Women initiative, we have learned a lot from this session as men champions on how we can assist the women in terms of ensuring they are undergoing peace and security’’. He said.
Willy Tanui representative for people living with disabilities said he learned that women should be involved in all meetings to give their views and support those in power and also thanked NCCK for involving people living with disabilities in their meetings.
‘’I have learned that we should involve women in meetings happening even in the village to give their views and support those in power’’. He stated.
‘’As people living with disabilities, we thank NCCK for having this forum so that we can be together with other populations,” he added.
The National Council of Churches of Kenya are looking forward to fostering ecumenism at national, regional, and community level to strengthen joint action by churches on matters of common concern and also seeks to facilitate the attainment of a united, just, peaceful, and sustainable society.
