Kenya’s Annual Performance Evaluation Exercise to Begin on December 9, 2024
The annual performance evaluation exercise for the 2023/24 financial year will commence on December 9, 2024, marking a significant step in Kenya’s efforts to enhance public sector efficiency and accountability. Coordinated by the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery Management, the two-month exercise will involve ministries, state corporations, and tertiary institutions across the country.
This evaluation process is a key component of Kenya’s performance contracting system, a framework aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring government operations align with national priorities, including the Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
According to the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, the evaluation ensures that government initiatives are effectively contributing to the country’s development goals. The exercise will begin with internal assessments conducted by each ministry or agency. These assessments will then be followed by external verification, led by the Public Service Performance Management Unit, to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the results.
The entire process will be facilitated through the Government Performance Management Information System (GPMIS), which guarantees credibility and transparency in assessing the outcomes of various government programs and projects.
The Deputy Chief of Staff’s office emphasized that this annual performance evaluation is crucial in driving accountability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within Kenya’s public sector.
