Kiharu Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Budget Committee, Ndindi Nyoro, has unveiled the proposed 2024-2025 budget, totaling KSh 3.9 trillion.

Speaking in Teso South Busia County, Nyoro outlined key areas of investment designed to enhance the lives of citizens across Kenya.
Nyoro announced a significant allocation of KSh 700 billion to the education sector.

This investment will fund capitation for primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions. Additionally, the Teachers Service Commission will offer permanent and pensionable contracts to all Junior Secondary School teachers currently on temporary contracts.

The education budget also includes the recruitment of 20,000 new teachers within the financial year.
Reflecting on Kenya’s economic performance, Nyoro noted that the economy has grown by 5.5% over the past year.

Recognizing the critical role of agriculture, he revealed a KSh 16 billion allocation for fertilizer subsidies to support farmers. Moreover, KSh 2 billion has been earmarked for settling outstanding payments to sugarcane farmers, and KSh 1.1 billion will be used to modernize the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) to prevent milk wastage.

Nyoro also highlighted social welfare initiatives, such as the allocation of KSh 30 billion for the Cash Transfer Program benefiting senior citizens above 70 years old. This time, the payments will be disbursed through M-Pesa, ensuring greater accessibility and efficiency.

Addressing infrastructure, Nyoro stated that funds have been allocated to complete stalled projects before initiating new ones. The budget includes KSh 14.5 billion for rural electrification, aimed at connecting all households across the country to the electricity grid.

Regarding the contentious Finance Bill, which has stirred public debate, Nyoro assured Kenyans that their concerns would be taken into account. “We will do what the people want since they are the ones who put us in power,” he emphasized, promising to avoid imposing taxes that adversely affect the populace.

Teso South Constituency MP Mary Emase commended Nyoro for his comprehensive and forward-thinking financial plan.
“Praise is due to Hon. Nyoro for his well-done job in ensuring that the budget addresses key areas that will enhance the lives of our people,” Emase stated. “The focus on education, agriculture, and support for the elderly demonstrates a commitment to holistic development.”

Emase pledged her support for Nyoro’s initiatives and expressed her willingness to collaborate closely with him in the future. “I am ready to support and work together with Hon. Nyoro to ensure that these projects are successfully implemented and that the benefits reach our constituents. Together, we can achieve great things for our nation,” she affirmed.

Farouk Kibet, a key aide to President William Ruto, made a compelling plea for national unity, urging Kenyans to rise above tribal politics and come together as one nation. “We want a united country that belongs to all Kenyans,” Kibet stated passionately. “Under the leadership of figures such as Ndindi Nyoro, Kenya will undoubtedly progress.”

Kibet emphasized the importance of solidarity regardless of political or tribal affiliations, highlighting the need for a cohesive and forward-looking Kenya. “President Ruto has good plans for the country, and it is imperative that we support his leadership to achieve our collective goals,” he added.

Kibet’s remarks come at a time when Kenya is navigating through significant political and social challenges. His call for unity is seen as a crucial step towards fostering a sense of national identity and purpose among Kenyans. “The time for divisive politics is over,” Kibet asserted. “We must focus on building a nation where every citizen, regardless of their background, can contribute to and benefit from our collective progress.”

The proposed budget reflects a commitment to enhancing various sectors and addressing the needs of the population, marking a significant step towards national development.
