The modern Kimumu-Bahati fresh produce wholesale market jointly funded by the County Government of Uasin Gishu and the European Union under Instrument for Devolution Advice Support (IDEAS) is set to be opened next month.
Governor Jackson Mandago EGH has praised the projects progress saying once complete, it will decongestant the Eldoret town CBD, as well as reduce the congestion in the Eldoret town market.
“This market will not only serve Eldoret but also serve the neighbouring counties,” Mandago said.
The market is equipped with cold storage facilities for preservation of farm fresh produce.
Mandago also assured the European Union team of his administration’s commitment to complete the project for the benefit of locals.
“We are going to work together to see the success of the all the projects in this county,” he said.
On his part, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the project will spur the economy of the region.
Edward Mwale, European Union Technical Advisor congratulated Governor Mandago for his commitment and hard work saying Uasin Gishu is among the 5 counties that received the second grant from the EU under the IDEAS Project.
The European Union team paid a courtesy visit to the Governor during the monitoring and appraisal of the progress of the construction prior to its commissioning in August.
Chief Officer Trade Simion Tanui who was present said they have already complied with the standard required and are currently working on the operalization of the market.
