Kipchoge Keino Stadium to be upgraded into a World Class stadium.
Cabinet Secretary of Sports and Arts Ababu Namwamba while addressing the press in Eldoret during a visit to Kipchoge Keino stadium to oversee the state of completion of the stadium ahead of the upcoming devolution conference said that the National government is going to allocate more funds to ensure the stadia among many other infrastructure in Uasin Gishu County are build.
“We are going to ensure the stadium is built to the required standard. We have already communicated with the contractor to ensure it is inevitable in the next 4 weeks in preparation for the devolution conference,” said Namwamba.
Namwamba further noted that the construction of the stadium will continue even after the devolution conference and appealed to the contractors to use the funds appropriately and complete all the projects within the scheduled period.
“Eldoret is the largest city in the Northrift region and we have already allocated funds we are going to look for more funds to facilitate the construction of a world-class level stadium in this city to host the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) and other sporting events,” added the PS sports.
The Ps alluded that Uasin Gishu is the fountain of athletics not only in Kenya but in Africa and has been producing prominent athletes, the likes of Faith Kipyegon who is the world record holder in 1500m and 5000m.
“This is the stadium where I saw Faith Kipyegon train and miraculously became a world champion by setting two world records. The ministry also constructs an international standard state-of-the-art training center in Kamariny as it provides a conducive environment for training athletes in higher altitude areas.
