KMPU Gives Uasin Gishu County Government 21 Days Strike Notice

Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has given Uasin Gishu County 21 days Strike notice to Uasin Gishu County to Implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
According to its Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atela the County has contravened the CBA that the union signed with them.

“From our deliberations, we decided to give Uasin Gishu County a 21-day strike notice to solve the CBA issue failure to which we will go on strike,” said the KMPDU Secretary General.

“Uasin Gishu County has contravened the Collective Bargaining Agreement that we signed with them to the point that we have many of the consultants highly frustrated despite working for over seven years,” he said.

He said that it’s sad that the doctors from the County have not at any point seen or smelt promotions, there is also a big shortage of doctors to the extent that residents are struggling that they now seeking medication at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

“We are demanding for the employment of more doctors, County to stop arbitrary stoppage of salaries and also remit their statutory deductions,” he said.

He further revealed that there have been a number of doctors at MTRH who have been discriminated against in a way that some have stayed on a contractual basis for over two years without being confirmed.

“This has denied them many services such as loans, career progression, and comprehensive medical cover among others. We are demanding that their terms of engagement be harmonized,” he said.

He further said that the Union has taken the County government of Elgeyo Marakwet to Court for reducing doctors’ salaries by half.
