KNCCI, KCIDA, and Linda Mazingira Collaborate to Ensure Success of the Youth Climate Change Summit
Officials from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), the Kakamega County Investment and Development Authority (KCIDA), and Linda Mazingira have joined forces to organize a successful Youth Climate Change Summit, set to take place at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega, starting November 21, 2024.
The three organizations held a productive tripartite meeting to discuss the logistics and planning for the four-day event, which will engage youth, children, women, and the business community. With a target capacity of 1,000 participants, the summit will be a key platform for raising awareness and fostering collaboration on climate change issues.
In preparation for the event, the teams outlined a detailed timeline and assigned tasks to various sub-teams to ensure smooth coordination. A primary focus will be on logistics, including venue preparation, catering, and technology setup, such as microphones, projectors, and Wi-Fi access. MMUST, chosen as the venue for its capacity to host large events, was given a clean bill of health, with sufficient space for multiple sessions, including auditoriums for keynote speeches and smaller breakout rooms for workshops.
The event will feature a diverse agenda, with keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. These sessions aim to engage attendees in meaningful discussions, providing valuable insights into climate action. Additionally, interactive Q&A sessions, live polls, and networking opportunities will ensure active participation and engagement.
Ensuring a seamless attendee experience was a key point of focus for the organizing teams. They have committed to clear communication with all event stakeholders and will provide periodic progress updates leading up to the summit. On-site, the venue will be well-marked with clear signage, maps, and digital guides to help participants navigate easily.
The registration process will be streamlined to avoid long queues, with a focus on using digital tools for smooth check-in. Networking opportunities will be facilitated through structured meet-and-greets and social events, fostering connections between participants from diverse backgrounds.
Feedback collection will also be a priority, with surveys being conducted after the event to gauge its success and identify areas for improvement. The organizing team emphasized that they will focus on learning from each summit to improve future events.
A significant part of the discussions also revolved around the potential for youth entrepreneurship. The partners agreed to provide funding opportunities for youth organizations, with the goal of creating a supportive ecosystem for young entrepreneurs. A dedicated director will be assigned to guide and oversee these initiatives.
The partnership between KNCCI, KCIDA, and Linda Mazingira marks a collaborative step towards creating sustainable solutions to climate change while empowering the youth to take action. The Youth Climate Change Summit is poised to be an important event that will inspire change, promote sustainable practices, and foster collaboration among Kenya’s future leaders.
The summit’s success will rely not only on efficient planning and execution but also on the ongoing collaboration between the government, NGOs, the private sector, and the youth themselves.
