Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO) has threatened to join the bandwagon of the ongoing doctor’s strike.

This is after KNUMLO announced that from Friday, they will withdraw blood bank if the Government will not have complied to their demands
The announcement was made by Nairobi branch Secretary General Denis Oduor and National Secretary General Nyakundi Moriasi Pius.

In a statement led by Denis Oduor, Union officers cited discrimination by both National and county Governments.

“Laboratory officers need a conducive working environment with better salaries, improved employment terms, promotions, and comprehensive health cover among other issues.

According to Denis Oduor the Government has refused to sit with the KNUMLO to discuss the nine agenda that the union is demanding.
The main issue is a recognition agreement that the members of the union is asking the Government to sign.

“Enough is enough. We are asking all our laboratory officers to go down on their tools starting Friday this week if our grievances couldn’t have been solved,” said Oduor

Additionally, the union needs the government to raise the salaries to laboratory officers claiming that some officers received ksh15,000 which is even below the country’s labor wage.

“Medical sector will be paralyzed and many citizens will suffer and some lose their lives. The Government needs to do something because even private hospitals receive blood from public hospitals. We love our fellow Kenyans but enough is enough” Nyakundi stated
