Kipchoge Stadium to Be a Befitting Reflection of Regiosln’s Heritage
Uasin Gishu County will get an international stadium as an appreciation for the immense contribution the region has added into Kenya’s athletics heritage.
The County – having birthed Kenya’s athletics legend Kipchoge Keino and many others – and is the reason for the country’s peerless lasting dominance in running.
These was said by Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Ababu Namwamba as he visited to check on the progress of Eldoret’s Kipchoge Stadium, Friday evening.
Namwamba said some facilities within the stadium will be completed for the Devolution program.
“(After Devcon) we shall embark on serious works that are in the long run geared at ensuring Uasin Gishu gets a state-of-the art athletics stadium that befits its reverence as a region that has given us such respect in international stadia,” said Namwamba.
Being a region where athletics is cherished and staggeringly comes second to religion, arguably of course, Kipchoge Stadium will host the Devcon 5km Run and other races as 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m for the Devolution Conference set for August 15-19 in Eldoret.
The CS lauded the County Government for closely monitoring the construction process of the stadium. He reiterated that key facilities will be ready for the conference.
Principal Secretary Eng Peter Tum, County Executive for Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo and her Chief Officer, Nahum Jelagat, among several other officers, flanked the CS.
After the conference, fitting the terrace seats, installation of the canopy and a new tartan, among other deliberate interventions.
