KTDA Commits to Farmer Upliftment on International Tea Day 2024

In a symbolic gesture marking International Tea Day 2024, key figures from Kenya’s tea industry congregated in Nandi Hills to celebrate the occasion and reaffirm their commitment to the nation’s tea farmers.

Tea Board of Kenya CEO Willy Mutai, flanked by KTDA CEO Wilson Muthaura and KTDA National Chairman Enos Njeru, echoed sentiments of optimism for the future while acknowledging the pivotal role farmers play in driving national prosperity through tea cultivation.

Amidst the celebratory atmosphere, Muthaura emphasized KTDA’s dedication to uplifting tea farmers through progressive reforms. Reflecting on the previous year’s achievements, Muthaura highlighted KTDA-managed factories’ impressive turnover of Kshs 95.3 billion, marking a notable growth of 2.28% from the preceding year’s figure of Kshs 93.02 billion. Notably, the total payment disbursed to farmers surged by 7.6%, reaching a substantial sum of Kshs 67.7 billion, underscoring the tangible benefits accruing to farmers under KTDA’s stewardship.

Looking ahead, Muthaura outlined the organization’s strategic objectives for the coming year, with a focus on enhancing cost management and diversifying market opportunities to further bolster farmers’ incomes.

By leveraging efficient operational practices and exploring new avenues for tea distribution, KTDA aims to ensure that farmers receive even greater returns for their labor, thereby fostering sustainable growth across Kenya’s tea sector.

As the festivities concluded, participants exchanged well-wishes for International Tea Day 2024, encapsulating a shared commitment to nurturing Kenya’s tea industry and empowering the hardworking farmers who form its backbone.
