Langas Ward MCA who doubles up as the leader of the minority in the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu Francis Muya has applauded President William Ruto for bringing back the cash transfer.

Speaking after disbursing bursaries to needy and bright students worth Sh 3.5 in his ward Muya said the move is welcomed since the elderly were suffering due to lack of funds.
During New Year’s eve, the Langas Ward MCA pleaded with President William Ruto to intervene, saying the high cost of living had made life unbearable for the elderly.

“On behalf of the elderly and the people of Langas, I want to thank president William Ruto and his government for remembering the elderly since most of them were suffering because they are dependent on the same. May God Bless you,” said the Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of the Minority.

The Director of Social Assistance in the State Department for Social Security and Protection through a letter addressed to all county and sub-county disability services officers, children officers, and social development coordinators said the government has released Ksh 8, 577,808,000 as payment to 1,072,226 Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme beneficiaries currently on the payroll.

The payment covers the July-August and September-October 2022 cycles and the disbursements will be through the contracted payment service providers (PSPs) the payment is scheduled to commence on Monday 9th January 2023 with each beneficiary receiving Ksh8,000.
Over 600 bright and needy students benefited from the Sh. 3.5 million bursaries, but he however called on Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii to increase bursary allocation.

“Today we have disbursed Sh 3.5 bursary which is not enough since I have over 3000 needy and bright students who need bursary, this is just but a drop in the ocean. I urge governor Bii, to increase the funds to sh 200 million for more children to benefit and later help their parents.
