Langas Ward MCA and Uasin Gishu Jubilee party chairman Francis Muya has urged the Government through the Ministry of Education to ensure that they put more emphasis on sports and not only classwork.

Speaking to the press after supporting football teams with sports kits, uniforms, football, training kit, and First aid kit, Muya said this will help nurture their talents at a tender age.

“I want to call upon the government through the Ministry of Education to encourage students to participate in sports and not only in classwork, this will also help them nurture their talents and in long run thye might be the next Wanyama or Ronaldo,” the Langas MCA said.

He said schools should not only concentrate in classwork but also on sports since there are sportsmen and women who earn more than Kenya’s president.

“If Langas ward for example could have more than three youths playing football abroad we will not have problems with sports in the ward and their lives will never never be the same again,” he added.
Muya further said he will come up with a bill in the County Assembly which will help sportsmen and women financially.

“In langas, we have more than three teams which play in the National leagues where most of them are unemployed, how do you expect those people to travel across the country? We should have a bill for us to provide money to the sports sector where teams can be managed with governments money instead of using their money to pay referees and catering for their transport,” Muya said.

He called on the incoming governor to ensure that he puts money in the budget that will mage teams financially be it football, volleyball, or athletics since sports is one of the devolved functions.

“We want more than one playing field in every ward for youths’ talents to be nurtured, we would like a field where people can come and support and cheer their teams. When we invest in sports we will avoid social problems at all,” he said.

Mr. Owino says” We are calling on our MCA to take a bill in the County Assembly which will help in team sustainability and not always asking for money to carry out their day to day activities. Sports will also help them stop using drugs and engage in good activities.

Samuel from Dogo FC thanked Langas MCA for the move saying the kits will help them and will prevent them from engaging in illegal activities such as the use of drugs.

“We are happy as ladies for what mheshimiwa has done to us this shows that Muya nurtures talents, May God bless him,” said Solasa Junior Coach Brenda Juma.
