Learning At Butere Boys High School Suspended
A day after a three week closure of Mukumu Girls High School, learners at Butere Boys High School in Butere Sub-County were on Tuesday released from school following an outbreak of diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pains that had affected over 100 students.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa was at the institution where he concured with the school Management and Ministry of Education Officials for suspending learning to pave way for investigations into the root cause of the incident.
Governor Barasa said preliminary results ruled out Typhoid and Cholera and assured parents and guardians that all the hospitalised students were in a stable condition. A team of Public Health Officers, he stated, will be dispatched to the school to conduct the investigations.
Samples of the affected have been taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for analysis.
