Legal Battle Unfolds as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha Faces Allegations and Torture Claims

In a dramatic courtroom scene, the legal conflict surrounding Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspect in a high-profile murder case, has intensified. The case involves Khalusha’s alleged involvement in the deaths of multiple women, with the latest allegation adding a personal dimension: the murder of his wife.
Defence lawyer John Maina Ndegwa has painted a troubling picture of Khalusha’s treatment while in custody. According to Ndegwa, Khalusha was coerced into a false confession through severe torture, which he claims was inflicted during interrogation sessions. Ndegwa has demanded urgent medical care for Khalusha, who, he argues, has been subjected to inhumane conditions that contravene legal standards.
In a contentious hearing at the Makadara Law Courts, Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi ruled in favor of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), granting a 30-day extension for Khalusha’s detention to facilitate ongoing investigations. The DCI defended its stance by emphasizing the necessity of continued custody for uncovering further evidence and pursuing justice.
Ndegwa vehemently opposed the extension, arguing that there is insufficient evidence to justify it and stressing Khalusha’s right to a fair trial as enshrined in Article 50 of the Kenyan Constitution. “The extension is an abuse of process,” Ndegwa asserted, accusing the DCI of using detention as a tool to extract confessions rather than seeking genuine justice.
The case took a new turn with the latest accusation implicating Khalusha in the death of his wife, adding a personal and emotional layer to the proceedings. Despite the gravity of the new charge, Ndegwa has chosen to withhold details of Khalusha’s confession from the public, a strategic move that has only deepened public curiosity and speculation.
The DCI has firmly rejected the allegations of torture, maintaining that all interrogation methods employed were legal and necessary. The ongoing legal battle highlights the tension between law enforcement’s efforts to solve a complex case and the defense’s fight for Khalusha’s legal rights and fair treatment.
