In a major development for the Likuyani constituency, Member of Parliament Innocent Mugabe has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Nichiei International Incorporated, a prominent technology firm from Tokyo, Japan. The collaboration aims to transform Likuyani into a leading digital hub and significantly enhance internet access for the community.

The announcement follows a high-profile meeting with Ayumi Hosei, the Corporate Manager of Nichiei International, who led a delegation to Kenya for the initiative. The discussions focused on strategic plans to leverage Japanese technology to advance digital infrastructure and create new opportunities for the local youth.

A centerpiece of the partnership is the installation of 20 kilometers of state-of-the-art fibre optic cable throughout Likuyani. This significant investment is expected to boost internet connectivity across several key locations, including the Likuyani Sub County Hospital, Kongoni Sub County Headquarters, Kongoni Technical and Vocational College, the upcoming Jitume Digital ICT Hub, Likuyani Police Station, and Imbinga Chief’s Office. The project will also extend internet access to surrounding homes, churches, and schools.

“This initiative is a crucial step towards transforming Likuyani into a hub of digital innovation and economic growth,” said MP Innocent Mugabe. “By improving internet access and providing our youth with cutting-edge technologies, we are laying the foundation for a thriving digital economy that will benefit our entire community.”

The project will be rolled out in phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2025. During a site visit conducted later in the day with the Nichiei delegation and officials from the ICT Authority, the team reviewed the planned installation routes and discussed the technical aspects of the fibre optic network.

Likuyani Ward MCA Hon. Brian Mafunga also attended the meeting, expressing enthusiasm for the project’s potential to create job opportunities and foster technological advancement in the constituency.

“This partnership with Nichiei International represents a significant opportunity for our young people,” added MCA Mafunga. “It will provide them with the skills and tools necessary to succeed in the digital economy and contribute to our community’s growth.”

The fibre optic cable installation is part of MP Mugabe’s broader initiative to harness technology for local development and economic advancement. The project is expected to set the stage for future innovations and investments in Likuyani.

As the project moves forward, both the local community and the Japanese tech firm remain committed to achieving the shared goal of elevating Likuyani’s status as a leader in digital technology and economic development.
