Limuru Constituency Public Primary Schools TAP2EAT Feeding Program
During a stakeholders(Headteachers, BOM Chairpersons and Parents Association Representatives), Public Participation meeting at Kamirithu Polytechnic, Limuru Central Ward. The meeting was to propose the Tap2Eat, feeding Program for our Limuru Public Primary Schools.
In this Program, High quality nutritious meals shall be prepared in a central kitchen as per internationally recognised food safety standards. In this case it was unanimously agreed by all stake holders that the Kitchen will be setup in Kamandura Primary School by the Limuru NG – CDF.
Fresh food will be directly sourced from local farmers. Labour shall also be locally sourced. Food shall be supplied to the various primary schools through some food trucks between 8:00 to 9:00am. For pupils to eat they will be issued with free watches to tap so that they can eat.
Tap2Eat is a digital mobile platform that uses cutting edge FinTech, to enable public primary school children access nutritious food for education. Parents will be required to pay for the subsidized lunches using mobile money. The amount is credited to a virtual wallet linked to an NFC smart wrist band which students use to then Tap2Eat in under 5 seconds. In this case, a meal shall be costing 15sh per child and a child cannot tap twice. 10% of needy pupils in each school shall be sponsored by the program and if we are able to get more sponsers the charges shall be hopefully reduced with time.
I am glad that all stakeholders embraced this feeding program and hence the construction of the kitchen is set to begin soon. However, it’s not compulsory for all Primary Schools. Those with solid feeding programs can still progress with theirs.
