The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has expressed satisfaction with the recent developments regarding the investigation into the fake fertilizer scam. President of LSK, Hon. Faith Odhiambo, has applauded the National Assembly’s efforts in seeking accountability over the fraudulent activity.

“We are encouraged by the steps taken by the National Assembly in seeking accountability over the fake fertilizer scam. We call on our parliamentarians to prosecute this matter to its conclusive resolution in accordance with their constitutional mandate and to rebuild public trust in the institution of Parliament,” stated Hon. Faith Odhiambo.

In a press release, LSK reiterated its demand for exhaustive investigations into the matter and legal action against the individuals involved. The society emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable to restore confidence in the agricultural sector.

Furthermore, LSK pledged to closely monitor the National Cereals & Produce Board’s (NCPB) process of compensating affected farmers following LSK’s demand. The society emphasized the need for transparency in the compensation process to ensure that public funds are not misappropriated.

“We will continue to agitate for and pursue exhaustive investigations into the matter and legal action against the individuals involved. Further, we will closely monitor the NCPB’s process of compensating farmers affected by the scam as indicated by their undertaking following our demand,” Hon. Faith Odhiambo affirmed.

The society stressed that any efforts towards compensating affected farmers must be structured, transparent, and accompanied by full disclosure of the source of compensatory funds. This, according to LSK, is crucial to prevent the misuse of public funds for reparations resulting from criminal actions.

The Law Society of Kenya remains committed to ensuring justice for farmers affected by the fake fertilizer scam and upholding the rule of law in the country’s agricultural sector.
