Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has alleged that the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was driven by internal dissent among Kenya Kwanza MPs. Speaking at a press conference, Maanzo asserted that many MPs had initially supported Professor Kithure Kindiki for the deputy presidency but were sidelined when President William Ruto selected Gachagua for the role.

Maanzo explained that Ruto’s choice was a calculated strategy aimed at consolidating support and securing numbers ahead of the 2022 General Election. However, he suggested that this decision sowed discord within the party, ultimately leading to Gachagua’s impeachment.

“Many in Kenya Kwanza felt their preferred candidate was overlooked, which created lasting resentment,” Maanzo stated. “The dynamics within the party have now come full circle, and what we are witnessing is the fallout from that decision.”

The senator’s comments highlight the ongoing tensions within Kenya Kwanza, as party members grapple with the implications of Gachagua’s removal from office. Political analysts suggest that the internal rifts could impact the coalition’s cohesion as it navigates future challenges.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on how President Ruto addresses these fractures within his administration.
