Man Found Dead in Nyamindi River in Kirinyaga County
A man’s body was discovered today, Friday, in Nyamindi River at Nduma Village in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County. The body, which was found by local residents, has raised concerns among the community, as it is the latest in a series of similar incidents in the area.
According to Gitari Gititu, the village in-charge, the body was spotted by villagers who were planting crops near the river. “I was called by the villagers from the other side of the river, who informed me that they had seen a human body. When I arrived, I confirmed it was that of a man and immediately notified the authorities,” Gitari said.
Residents believe the man might have been a bodaboda rider, citing the discovery of three sets of clothes, including a reflector jacket, near the body. “We suspect that the man may have been killed elsewhere and dumped here. The area is bushy, and we hope detectives will uncover more details during the investigation,” said Peter Munene, a local resident.
This is not the first time a body has been found in the Nyamindi River, which has become notorious in recent years for similar cases. “This is not the first incident in this river, and we don’t understand why people are being killed and dumped here,” added Mary Wanjiru, another villager.
The body was retrieved by local residents and police officers and transported to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Authorities from Wanguru Police Station have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death and the identity of the man. The community is calling for greater safety and action to prevent further incidents in the area.
