Man Reveals How He Overcame Heroin Addiction
He chose the wrong path of drugs and alcohol. He said he had messed up his life and that of his family and friends. Carlos 26 dropped out of the university while in his third year pursuing a degree in
criminology. He said that if he had take off alcohol then his life would have been much better.
He started taking alcohol when he was 18 years old while in form four and could not stop after slipping into depression following his mother’s death. “The death of my mother was big blow. She was the family’s sole breadwinner. She left behind a three year old sibling. I was very stressed while doing my KCSE but
managed and joined university,” he said.
Carlos abused Miraa, alcohol and bhang at the same time. “I started doing hard drugs like heroin at the age of 23 and my life started to go downhill. Nothing but drugs was important to me. I was on a path to total destruction,” he said. “My addiction to heroin took priority over everything I did. I ‘died’ many times due to multiple overdose of the drug.” Since he was so much into the drug, he did not have time to properly feed as the drug was now his food. He even went to the point of selling his essentials like
laptops and phones just to have the drug.
After sometimes he had reduced his weight from 65kgs and now he had 40Kgs. He never lived in the house as most of the times he would go take the drug only to lie in the streets since most of the times
he overdosed. Living in the streets was his official life. His family members especially the elder brother to their late mother was so much worried about him. Mostly he seemed concerned about his life.
He wanted the best from him since he knew Carlos had the great potential to change things around and get back to his studies at the university.
