Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has lauded teachers for their efforts in fighting Corona virus pandemic.
“ We want to thank our teaching fraternity because they have done a commendable job on ensuring our children are safe. They are our frontline soldiers in the fight to prevent the spread of this dreaded virus “, Mandago said.
The Governor spoke on Monday, at Atanas Kandie Primary School, Turbo sub-county , when he officially launched distribution of 80,000 face masks to 36,000 pupils and 1,500 ECDE teachers in 609 Early Childhood Education centres spread across Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking at the same venue, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno asked teachers to train the pupils on proper use of face masks and hand washing because in doing so they help spread the message in the society.
Uasin Gishu county Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka, also present thanked the county government for the collaboration it offers in ensuring children learn in a safe environment.
While distributing the masks.
The Governor also said that he had directed Eldoret Water & Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) and the county department of water to ensure there is constant supply of clean water in schools.
“ We need to ensure constant supply of clean water so we make hand- washing in schools a reality” , Mandago said.
The County Executive Member for Health Dr. Evelyne Rotich said her department has deployed a team to work closely with schools in monitoring, prevention and control of COVID-19 in schools.
County Executive Mamber for Education Joseph Kurgat, also present, urged parents to work with teachers in ensure children do not miss schools adding that both levels of government are working on providing masks for ECDE through county government while primary school pupils will be covered by CDF ( Constituency Development Fund) kitty.
Governor Mandago took the opportunity to announce that his administration has set aside funds for staff promotions.
Also present during the event were Chair Education Committee Noah Kemboi and Chief Officer Education Jane Njuguna.
