Martha Karua Alleges Government-Backed Abduction Squad Targeting Critics
Martha Karua, leader of the NARC Kenya party, has made alarming allegations regarding a covert abduction and assassination squad operating with the tacit approval of the government. Speaking at a press conference, Karua claimed this group is specifically tasked with silencing dissent against President William Ruto’s administration.
Karua stated that credible sources have informed her of a special squad composed of police and military personnel, reportedly based in Karen, near the Deputy President’s residence, with additional members located in Kajiado. She suggested that the squad includes individuals from Ruto’s ethnic community, as well as operatives from neighboring countries such as Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda.
“This squad operates under direct instructions to target anyone who criticizes the Kenya Kwanza administration,” Karua warned. “The establishment of such groups is a dangerous precedent that undermines democracy and human rights in our nation.”
The NARC leader emphasized the importance of constitutional respect among elected officials, urging the government to uphold the rights of all citizens, particularly the freedom of expression. “We must stand together to protect our democracy,” she stated.
The allegations have raised concerns among human rights advocates and opposition leaders, who fear a growing climate of intimidation in Kenya. As the government has yet to respond to these claims, calls for investigations into Karua’s assertions are intensifying.
This development comes amidst heightened tensions in the political landscape, with increasing scrutiny of the government’s approach to dissent and civil liberties. Observers are now watching closely to see how the administration will address these serious allegations.
