Matatu Fare Hike Isn’t Punitive
The step by Matatu operators to adjust fare isn’t a punitive move, the CEO of Matatu Operators hon Mutheu has confirmed.
In a telephone interview, Hon Mutheu said the sector (Matatu sector) was forced to adjust the fares out of the skyrocketing prices of fuel.
Hon Mutheu quipped:
‘This is the most lenient move the sector had to take in Response to the Market forces. Since COVID our industry has been hardly hit and when we were just on the path to recovery, we were slapped with high cost of not just fuel but also vehicle spare parts and the like. License fees have also hit the roof,” the humble Mheshimiwa from Mlango Kubwa noted.
The fuel hike was occasioned by a 16% levied tax on fuel
